What Is Oud?
Oud — also known as agarwood, agar, or oudh — is one of the most precious and sought-after fragrance ingredients in the world. It is derived from the resinous heartwood of Aquilaria trees, which produce a dark, aromatic resin when infected by a specific mould. This resin-saturated wood, once distilled, yields an oil of extraordinary complexity: simultaneously smoky and sweet, woody and animalic, ancient and deeply intimate.
In the Arab world, oud is burned as incense at weddings and royal gatherings. In South Asia, it has been used in attars for centuries. In Japan, it forms the heart of the meditative practice of kōdō — the art of listening to incense. Across cultures and centuries, oud has been considered the "wood of the gods."
At Raahi Parfums, oud is not a trend. It is a tradition — one we have been working with for generations from our home in Kannauj, India.
Oud Attar vs. Synthetic Oud: What's the Difference?
The global fragrance industry has largely replaced natural oud with synthetic substitutes — molecules like Iso E Super or Javanol that approximate oud's character at a fraction of the cost. These synthetics are not inherently bad, but they are fundamentally different from the real thing.
A genuine oud attar, made through traditional hydro-distillation in Kannauj, carries the full spectrum of the wood's aromatic compounds — hundreds of molecules working in concert, evolving on skin over hours. A synthetic oud is a single note. A real oud attar is a symphony.

Dahn Al Oud Attar
Our purest oud expression. Dahn Al Oud is a traditional Indian attar built around the raw, resinous depth of agarwood. Dark, smoky, and meditative — this is oud in its most authentic form, with no distractions. Ideal for those who want to experience the ingredient at its most elemental.
White Oud
White Oud is oud reimagined — lighter, creamier, and more approachable. The characteristic smokiness of agarwood is softened here with powdery, almost milky accords, making it an excellent entry point for those new to oud. Available in both our traditional 10ml attar format and as a 50ml Eau de Parfum.
Oud Raga
Inspired by the classical Indian musical tradition of the raga — a framework for improvisation and emotion — Oud Raga layers agarwood with warm spices and earthy base notes. The result is a fragrance that unfolds slowly, revealing new facets with each hour of wear. Rich, complex, and deeply Indian in character.
Rumi's Rose Oud
A marriage of two of perfumery's greatest ingredients. Rumi's Rose Oud pairs the smoky depth of agarwood with the lush, honeyed sweetness of Kannauj rose. Named for the 13th-century Sufi poet whose verses are saturated with the imagery of roses and divine longing, this attar is romantic, spiritual, and unforgettable. Sunset Desert Oud & Vanilla
Our most modern oud composition. Sunset Desert Oud & Vanilla softens the intensity of agarwood with warm, gourmand vanilla — evoking the last light of a desert evening, amber and golden. This is oud for those who love warmth and sweetness alongside depth. Available in 12ml attar and 50ml EDP.
Dahn al Oud Eau De Parfum
For those who prefer a spray format, our Dahn al Oud EDP brings the same authentic agarwood character into a contemporary, alcohol-based format. The projection is broader, the sillage more assertive — the same soul, a different voice.
How to Wear Oud Attar
Oud attars are concentrated oils, so a little goes a long way. Here's how to get the most from your Raahi oud:
- Apply to pulse points — wrists, inner elbows, the base of the throat, and behind the ears. Body heat activates and projects the fragrance.
- Use sparingly — one or two drops is typically sufficient. Oud is powerful; more is not always better.
- Layer with intention — oud pairs beautifully with rose, sandalwood, musk, and amber. Try Rumi's Rose Oud over a base of our Sandalwood Oil for a deeply complex composition.
- Give it time — oud attars evolve significantly on skin. The opening may be intense; the dry-down is where the magic lives. Allow at least 30 minutes before judging a fragrance.
- Store correctly — keep your attar away from direct sunlight and heat. A cool, dark drawer is ideal.
